The ASW 24

The ASW-24, is a modern generation, single-seater standard class glider designed under the direction of Gerhard Waibel and produced by the company Alexander Schleicher between 1988 and 1994.

Successor of the ASW19, the ASW-24 represents a huge enhancement in both safety and performances compared to prior-generation gliders. Like many other gliders of its generation such as the LS7, the ASW-24 has excellent cruise performances but suffered from lesser climbing performances, especially before the addition of winglets, with higher wing loadings. The '24 has been replaced by the ASW-28 and other gliders from the same generation such as the LS8 and the Discus 2 which, if they don't cruise as well, have the ability to carry much more ballasts in the average day during competition flights.
